FARM TO SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM
Community Transformation Grants
These funds assist agricultural education teachers in enhancing student’s supervised agriculture experiences (SAE) with a focus on increasing the amount of locally grown food served in school cafeterias.
These funds provided $2,000 to the following schools to begin implementing farm to school activities.
AMERICORPS
West Virginia AmeriCorps Farm to School AmeriCorps members seek to improve the nutrition of youth with the purpose of reducing childhood obesity.
VALUE CHAIN CLUSTER INITIATIVE
This program provides hands-on business development and coaching services to strengthen local food and farm businesses in four regions in West Virginia.
SPECIALTY CROP BLOCK GRANT
New Appalachian Farm Research Center is partnering with Upshur and Tucker County Schools, their ProStart programs, students, local growers and the Office of Child Nutrition to evaluate the efficiency of providing minimal preparation and vacuum packing products for use in schools.
CAST IRON COOK-OFF
The WV Community Development Group partnered with the Cast Iron Cook-Off event to provide an opportunity to showcase the successful farm to school projects.
PROSTART CHEF TRAINING
Curriculum Development for school food service staff that incorporate/involves ProStart chefs/instructors and students.
