ProStart programs in schools across the state are helping students learn kitchen skills necessary to be successful in the restaurant industry after graduation. Participating students receive training that includes meal presentation, flavor development, and food preparation skills.

These programs are also developing partnerships with their food service staff to gain first-hand experience working in cafeteria kitchens. ProStart programs are helping food service staff prepare locally grown food for school meals.

Below, students in Greenbrier East High School's Pro-Start program testing their ability to cut locally raised and smoked pork belly into delicious slices of bacon.
