Share the news: We have yet another great opportunity! We have partnered with the Minutemen Farmers' Cooperative to develop a part-time AmeriCorps position, based out of Point Pleasant. The member placed with the Minutemen will play a vital role in helping to establish relationships between the Farmers' Cooperative and regional school food service personnel. Partnerships between the Minutemen and surrounding schools will create a consistent buyer for products produced by the participating veterans. The AmeriCorps member will also help veteran participants with post-harvest handling to meet school specifications for packaging and delivery and assist in the development of program materials as needed.
Members of the Minutemen Farmers' Cooperative are veterans who receive technical instruction including 30-31 credit hours at WVU-Parkersburg, and 4,000 hours of on-the-job training on a working specialty crops farm in Point Pleasant.
The Minutemen Farmers' Cooperative is part of a larger move on the national scale to help veterans learn all of the skills needed to run a successful agriculture business. We're excited about this budding opportunity for West Virginia's veterans. For more information on WV's Veterans to Ag, check out their Facebookpage.
